Family and Medical LeaveAct/California Family Rights Act
Employers of 50 or more employees are required to grant unpaid leaves, to a maximum of 12 weeks, for an employee’s own serious illness, or for the employee to care for certain seriously ill family members or to bond with a newborn child. Both the state and federal acts have eligibility requirements for employees, posting requirements, health benefit continuation provisions, medical certification provisions and guarantee the employee the right to return to his/her job.
